The error I get is something like "this already has text, the program cannot convert to text". Same problem when I try to save as a Word RTF file - it gives me only.

I am glad that you figured that out and could resume back your work. Mobile link is on.
Now when I access that same document on iPad , those highlights and comments are not showing up. Please help. I cannot find my highlighted text and annotations made yesterday on document when I opened doc today.
I'm using the current android app. My document froze--I couldn't scroll or highlight--so I just left it alone for a couple minutes and went to the restroom. When I got back, the document had closed itself and when I re-opened it, the highlights from the last 5 hours had all been deleted highlights and notes from over 6 hours ago remain.
The same amount of highlights shows up when I open the document on my laptop.
Is there any way to recover the highlights that closed out for some reason? Is there anything analagous to when the desktop program crashes and it offers a recovery file of what was open? Did you solve the problem?

When a given PDF page's content is only an image of textual content there is nothing "textual" to export - only the image. The cleanest approach is to provide yourself with a new scan. Don't apply different methods to the same PDF. ClearScan replaces recognized characters with an Acrobat generated font.
Those that are not recognized are left as a bit-mapped image. Basically the original image of characters is gone.
Searchable Image performs some buff 'n polish changes to the image permenantly changing it and provides an output layer of hidden text for those characters recognized.
Searchable Image Exact does not alter the image and leaves an output layer of hidden text for those characters recognized.
